Doug Rudd, Owner and co-founder of MR Motorcycle.
What exactly is in the name of the largest motorcycle dealer in western North Carolina?
In 1983, Grady Miller and Doug Rudd created Miller and Rudd Honda, or M.R. Honda. Their new partnership started in a small 8,000 square foot building on the west side of Asheville. It was located between Wendy's and Carolina Tire, which at that time, was home to Asheville Honda.
A short time after their business got off the ground, Mr. Rudd bought-out his partner, which allowed Mr. Miller to concentrate on his home store, Grady Miller's Honda in Greenville, South Carolina.
Even wtihout his partner, Mr. Rudd continued with the name M.R. Honda, which soon became M.R. Honda-Kawasaki-Yamaha as each of these new manufacturers were added.
With the addition of Suzuki, the business out grew their name as well as their building, which is why we are known today as M.R. Motorcycle. We have also moved into our new location on US 25, one mile south of I-40 on the south side of Asheville.
In 2003, M.R. Motorcycle celebrated 20 years in the motorcycle business with a lot of help from our customers all over western North Carolina, northern Georgia, Eastern Tennessee, and upstate South Carolina.
Also in 2003, the Miller-Rudd partnership came full circle. Mr. Miller retired from his store in Greenville and Mr. Rudd, once again, stepped in to take up the reins. Thus, Mr.Rudd is now the proud owner of a second store, Powersports of Greenville, South Carolina.
Thus, what started out as a partnership of two men, one small building, and one vision has now become one man, two dealerships, and that same vision - being the leader in service, parts, and selection for this region and growing our family of customers every year.
